It all started with one dare; Lily deposits a red notebook full of clues on a bookstore shelf leaving it to chance that her ideal guy will find it and pursue the clues within. Dash finds it, and the two embark on a fanciful journey cultivating a deep connect through the notebook, but will their in-person meeting live up to their notebook liaison?

The many literary elements portrayed work together to consummate a wonderfully witty and touching work. Regarding the text, the character Dash explains it well, “I was attempting to write the story of my life. It wasn’t so much about the plot. It was more about character”(198). The book’s plot chiefly is driven by the characters and their developmental journey in identity, autonomy, intimacy, and integrity. Further, the reader can gain a personal and insightful relationship with each of the main characters, Dash and Lily, through their individual point-of-view chapters. The tying themes, as well as, the underlying subtext, of the story are self-discovery, introspection, and a love of literacy which is manifested through the words passed back and forth between Dash and Lily via the notebook. The context of the book is the present day and reflects current teenage experiences not only through the believable characters but also through the numerous popular culture references.
Let me just say, I try to be very selective giving a 5-star rating. #Review Dash & Lily's Book of Dares http://ow.ly/eyTh30aS4zH @lenaebaker CLICK TO TWEET
